Law enforcement is still a male-dominated field; women who are hired on often encounter discrimination and sexual harassment. The article below details statistics on the low number of female officers in the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Rangers, and the Texas A&M Forest Service. Even the Texas Parks & Wildlife agency has a very low percentage of female wardens. Gender inequality, pregnancy discrimination, lack of accommodations, and sexual harassment are all factors than can contribute to a disproportionately small number of female workers in law enforcement. It can be tough for female officers to report sexual harassment and fear the harassment will worsen if they complain. Employers in all work fields need to take complaints of harassment and discrimination seriously.
