The Internet can make it easy for employers to conduct background checks as well as find personal information about job applicants. This may include researching the prospective employees’ religion, race or personal views, potentially leading to discriminatory hiring practices. Although employment discrimination is illegal, we know discrimination occurs. Job applicants need to be aware that information on their social media accounts might disclose personal information, such as age or sexual orientation, making it easier for potential employers to discriminate.
