Religious discrimination is the subject of a recent article from NOLO. The article discusses religious discrimination and employers’ obligation to make reasonable accommodation for religious practices such as Sabbath accommodation.
As we have posted on this blog before, religious discrimination is unfortunately very commonplace. It comes in various forms including off handed comments to not allowing an employee to participate in religious observations such as going to Church on the Sabbath. In Missouri, any “unfair treatment” because of an employee’s religious affiliations or beliefs is considered unlawful discrimination. This includes changes in the terms and conditions of an employee’s employment because of religion, hostile work environment and a refusal to offer a reasonable religious accommodation.
