Discrimination is one of the biggest social issues the U.S. continues to face and many workers are negatively affected by it, on a daily basis. Currently, numerous laws such Title VII of The Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act are in place to fight discrimination and give individuals protections. An attorney who specializes in employment law may be able to assist workers who have been wronged. Unfortunately, laws prohibiting discrimination can be difficult to enforce. Part of this is due to repeated budget cuts that affect the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which impairs their ability to enforce such laws and hold employers accountable. If an employee is experiencing discrimination, such as racial discrimination, and/or harassment in the workplace, they can contact a lawyer or law firm to better understand their rights.
