Organizations and offices on college campuses, such as Kansas University’s Office of Institutional Opportunity and Access (KU IOA), seek to ensure that the college is complying with federal laws prohibiting discrimination. Students should feel comfortable harassment and discrimination complaints, as well as have confidence that such complaints will be investigated thoroughly. This office investigates reports of sexual harassment and numerous forms of discrimination on campus. One candidate for a leadership role in KU IOA emphasized the need for initial as well as continuing training; making sure that employees and students understand the definitions of harassment is vital.
